Can you texture over cement board

As a matter of fact, priming one small area of a wall that will receive knock down texture is a detriment: the texturing compound will dry significantly slower over the primed area vs the unprimed area, resulting in an inconsistent knock down finish. If you insist on priming over the CBU area then I would suggest you prime that entire wall.

Kerdi Drain Help. I am dry fitting my Kerdi drain 1st kerdi shower used and have run into a problem and need advice. I am placing the drain in a concrete slab plumber moved drain from original spot since I wanted to change bathroom size. When he placed the drain he cut the drain pipe stub for me. I have since leveled the slab. When I dry fit the drain with the pan I noticed that the Kerdi drain doesn't fully bottom out on the inside ridge.

Is this acceptable or will it just be worse once I lay thinset to set everything in place and also glue the pipes together? I am getting the shower inspected and also don't want to have to rip it out because the pipes and drain aren't fully connected not sure if that truly matters. Pipe and drain are PVC. You will be okay. It doesn't need to be fully inserted. As long as you have a decent amount of grab you are good Somewhat carefully typed on teensy cell phone keys.

The gap is about In the videos I have seen for concrete subfloors they appear to set it right away. I would think the mud would need time to cure. I am using Mapei's deck mud newbie so its easier for me and it was cheap.

Welcome, Refugio. It'll help if you'll keep all your project questions on one thread so folks can see what you're working on and what's been previously asked and answered. We do however recommend that you plaster the board first, to ensure the best possible finish.

Leave the surface rough and open for the proper bond of finish coat. Allow the basecoat to set to provide proper suction for the finish coat. For tile backer board such as Durock , Wonderboard, Hardiebacker, Permabase, and others the seams between the board need to be treated with 2-inch alkali resistant mesh tape.

Then a coat of thinset gets flat troweled over the seam. Before we could do anything else, we needed to make sure the subfloors were solid. Step 2: Installing the Durock base. Step 4: Layout the Tile. Step 5: Install Tile. Step 6: Grout. Can you use joint compound on Hardibacker? Category: hobbies and interests woodworking. Does that sound like a good approach? Last edited: Jun 17, Normally, while maybe not always true, areas above the showerhead is considered 'dry'. It certainly can get some spray, but it's indirect, and not generally a lot. Drywall Repair We damaged the back side of this shower niche doing demolition. We hit the breaks and then started the repair process. We left the old lath in place and then flat trowelled it with Joint Compound.

Just after the second coat and while wet I pressed in some stucco mesh. Over this we infilled the entire area with Concrete Fill from Synko no concrete! At this point we treated the area as back to square one and proceed to float out the drywall mud over the entire wall in our quest for a level five drywall finish.

We do a lot of drywall work here in Vancouver - I'd rethink your game plan and study up more on the spray texture process. Thanks for all the feedback As far as the texturing, I'll be OK with that.

They've all got that "popcorn" texture on the ceilings that was so popular in the 70's. As we re-do a room, that crap gets removed and replaced. SH , Jun 18, Last edited: Jun 18, You must log in or sign up to reply here.
