The voting for zila panchayat chairman posts in 53 districts of Uttar Pradesh will be held today, i. July 3, the State Election Commission said.
The polling will take place from 11 am to 3 pm. The votes will be counted after 3 pm, it said. The elections were scheduled to be held in 75 districts but after winners were declared unopposed in 22 districts, the polling will take place in the remaining 53 districts. Lucknow: Counting of votes polled for the posts of block panchayat chiefs has begun on Satuday July 10 in Uttar Pradesh, the State Election Commission said. The counting of votes commenced after the voting concluded at 3 pm, it said.
Voting was held from 11 am to 3 pm on Saturday, according to news agency PTI. In a statement issued here, Adityanath said there should be a system in place wherein the winning and losing candidates be escorted to their homes under police protection. Stringent action should be initiated against people who indulge in vitiating the atmosphere," he said.
A total of candidates for the block panchayat chief posts were elected unopposed on Friday, the last day for the withdrawal of nomination papers. In a statement issued here on Friday, State Election Commissioner Manoj Kumar had said 1, nomination papers were received for posts of the block panchayat chief, of which 68 were cancelled and withdrawn. As the State Election Commission announced that candidates on posts have been elected unopposed, an office-bearer of the BJP claimed that among the winning candidates belonged to the ruling party.
Those showing symptoms of COVID such as fever, cold and cough will not be allowed at the counting centres. Everyone entering the counting centre has to undergo thermal scanning.
Directions have been issued to make arrangements for sanitiser, soap and water at the counting centres. Everyone visiting the centres will have to wear a mask and maintain social distancing compulsorily.
State Election Commission Commissioner has also directed against any crowding or gathering outside the counting centres. Violation of the instructions will be met with legal action under Section of the Indian Penal Code and Section to 60 of the Disaster Management Act, Voting for the panchayat polls in Uttar Pradesh ended on April 29 with a per cent voter turnout in the final phase.
