How does apc40 work

When you switch to track four, the eight Track knobs that you had been controlling the Beat Decoder with are now controlling the Flangeverb on track four. You'll even notice that the settings for each knob load on the light rings so you'll immediately see each knob's status.

The matrix is not limited to only 40 clips: you can scroll and shift, enabling you to access, control, and perform with an unlimited number of cells. The APC40 has a wide range of controllers. The eight Global knobs can access four banks of controls; the eight Track knobs control nine different track parameters each.

This gives you a massive total of 72 controllers that are dynamically reassigned each time you switch tracks. Channel faders, bus faders, and a crossfader give you smooth control of key values. Designed in partnership with Ableton, the APC40 is the most advanced Live controller for the most advanced performers. First name. Last name. Email address. Date of birth.

Password Password Strength: No Password. Password confirmation. Helena St. The official video on Ableton's site also has a teaser for a patch that turns the pad matrix into a step sequencer. In the meantime, a few people have been developing ingenious hacks to add custom functionality to the APC that give an idea of some of the possibilities. These mainly use an intermediary application, such as Bome's MIDI Translator, to intercept the messages coming from the APC and turn them into other messages or keystrokes.

Examples include Mackie Control emulation, use of the pads to play Drum Racks although the APC40's pads are not velocity sensitive , and an emulator for the Monome controller.

It's also a class-compliant device, so other apps can see it and use it with no additional installation. I tried it with Reason and Pro Tools. The encoder banking functionality is not available outside of Live, so you can only map one assignment to each knob. This kind of issue could be resolved with a proper template or codec for the app, but Akai have stated that they will not be developing any such templates for third-party apps.

That's not to say that someone else won't do it. However, as I've mentioned in the box on the previous page, people are already coming up with some clever hacks. The APC40 is the missing link that turns Live into a true performance instrument straight out of the box.

Alternatives There's nothing that does quite what the APC40 does straight out of the box, but there are options if you're prepared to work out your own mapping and controls. It's easy to drop Clips in and out of record. Thoughtful selection of transport and mode buttons provided. It will gain many new features when Max For Live is available. Offers limited functionality with other applications. Summary The APC40 is the missing link that turns Live into a true performance instrument straight out of the box.

Email via Akai web site. Advanced search. Post a reply. Afterwards the MIDI inputs and outputs work perfectly for the buttons, but I can't get the lights around the knobs to light up. But now it really works and is piss-easy to do. It's not going to be nearly as useful for other bits of software, but since it's got a stripped back version of Live included, it might be the kick up the arse many need to get with the program!
